CM ORISSA MET UNION MINISTER ON 17.06.2008

Government of Orissa

New Delhi

June 17, 2008

Shri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister, Orissa met the Union Minister for Rural Development today  and  requested  for timely release of funds under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) through  the State Employment Guarantee Fund (SEGF) recently constituted by the Government of Orissa.   The Union Minister appreciated the initiative and agreed to the request of the State Government.

The Chief Minister also requested the Union Minister to relax the conditionalities for fund release under NREGS considering that Orissa has adopted the Nrega on-line Management Information system.  The Union Minister appreciated the difficulty and agreed to favourably to consider the same.

The Union Minister complimented the initiative of the State Government for signing an MoU with the Department of Posts for effecting NREGS wage payment to wage-earners through Postal Savings Bank account.  The Chief Minister underlined the need to galavanise the post offices particularly located in the rural areas to ensure timely payment of wages to poor people.

The efforts of the State Government for having  two trained  'Mates' (Gaon Sathi)  in each village  for supervision  of NREGS work  and for establishing  an Integrated  Grievance  Redressal System for NREGS, PMGSY and Drinking Water Supply schemes  also lauded by  the Union Minister for Rural Development. The Union Minister also assured timely release of adequate funds to Orissa under NREGS.
